Are news channels doing their job?
Read Rajdeep Sardesai's article in Hindustan Times yesterday. Too analytical as usual. Well, I won't be that critical but in todays' age, media is a tool to shape public opinion and its job is not justified at all. Media is highly interfering especially news channels. Putting up cameras 24x7 is nothing but interference and then they blame it on the viewers because they are the ones who are craving for it.

First things first. What is the job of a news channel? DD was introduced to share the burden of newspapers and it served its purpose. DD was an instant success. Then came the satellite revolution . BBC and CNN followed. Watching the Gulf War live and getting regular updates was really commendable on CNN's part. However, CNN is highly Americanised whereas BBC has to be pro UK.

Why should India stay behind in the rat race? The boom of 24x7 ews channels gave birth to innumerable options for a viewer to go beyond his daily morninger. It started with the NDTV news network and now we have around 75 news channels round the clock. One may think that haveing so may news channels might change the face of Indian television. But I insist that think twice!!!!!

The content of news channels can be good at times but , they forget their job which is news gathering and dissemination. What kind of news are you providing by putting up cameras throughout the funeral of Pramod Mahajan? Is that what you call live telecast of funerals? Or is it news when you cover the Sangeet ceremony of Fardeen Khan?
I got plenty of smses saying that media was not allowed to cover the protest rally at Delhi against reservation. I was glad, for once. For all they would have done is hooked up their cameras whule a student would have died in the process.
News channels are no more socially responsible, forget the morality and ethics part of thei job. all they need is good TRP and audience (which they get) to be i the rat race. media is nothing but hype. Its all about sensationalism. Are we ready for this disparity, is what all of us should ask ourselves. Media does not show what is right, it shows what is wrong. Sorry guys, I do ot wish to be part of this hypocrisy. The system is highly demeaning and there;s no one to change it.
