Birthday Boy
So, its 11th of October and its Amitabh Bachchan's birthday. Though, I am not an ardent fan of his, I still can't ignore this charismatic superstar who ruled the hearts in the 70's. I like catching up with some of the finest movies ever made in Bollywood especially the 70's genre. The masala flicks started dishing out from Bollywood's plate only in the 70's and then was born a superstar with Zanjeer. The Angry Young Man.....VIjay (17 films)......Amit and all other tags followed.
Still, I feel that its the viewers who has made him the superstar and not his acting abilities. Yes, he can definitely give us a sincere performance like Anand and Chupke Chupke (this is Versatality). But move over him, he's not Al Pacino or Rober De Niro. he;s just a 6 feet tall human being who was just plain licky to get noticed and land with offers that completely relied on him.
Somehow, I feel his acting prowess needed more honing as compared to the adulation he's received over the yars. Oh yeah, let's include the flak too. What was he thinking when he signed on the dotted line during Khuda Gawah and Suryawansham or Mrityudata??? Money mattered him the most, we all know about it. I think it's just the screen presence combined with lack of good actors tat must have worked for him and then for his audiences.
I saw Don recently and Silsila . Don, I would say, had an excellent background score that helped AB steal the show. Btw, SRK, you do not stand a chance to be even close to the man and his aura. Whenever I see Silsila, I keep on cursing him for sticking around with Rekha. I was never a fan of Yash Chopra movies which are out and out artificial in every possible aspect and AB doesnt add anything worth watching in them. Lets not forget the gabbar image that he is doning for Sholay 2. GIve me a break! AmjadKhan is the ultimate Gabbar of all times. Jay was good for you.
Yet, I have not tried to answer the question myself about AB;s superstardom. Do i blame the media for hyping a simple human being from Allahabad, who, like thouands of others flocked the city to make a career in Bollywood. My professor once told us that its media who has made Sachin Tendulkar the person that he is today and I, so bl%^%y agree with him. It is us who needs to be blamed. Even today, AB agres that he doesnt deserve the accolades and honours that has been bestowed on him all these years. I know that this is just another tactic of being modest and a way of attracting the audiences. But, I feel like agreeing with him.
But anyways, here's wishing him a healthy birthday, Mr. Bachchan. I hope to see you around since you are alway a safe bet for the producers and their pockets And, thank you so much for giving us the most sexiest man with the most sexiest stuble..(acting not included)
P.S. Nothing related to the topic of the post. But , I cannot stop myelf from mentioning about my first international phone call from my cell. Though, I lost out on lots money...Who cares!!!!
